Common Water Heater Problems

Here are some questions we get about common water heater problems. To learn more about other water heater issues, please visit our Noisy Water Heater, Water Heater Is Leaking, and No Hot Water pages.

Your hot water heater temperature should be 122-140 degrees Fahrenheit. If it gets below 122 degrees, harmful microorganisms like Legionella can grow in your water heater and contaminate your water. If the heater is running hotter than you think it should but the temperature gauge is within the proper range, give us a call at (833) 270-8502. The temperature gauge may be malfunctioning, and we can repair it for you.

If your water is taking a long time to heat, it could be that the heating element or the thermostat is malfunctioning. A common water heater issue is sediment building up in the water heater tank and keeping it from functioning properly. Those are all repairs that we can do for you.

If your water is a dark rusty color, the culprit is probably corrosion inside your hot water tank. The one answer to that problem is to replace the tank. However, you could also be seeing dirty water because of a failing anode rod. Ask a professional to diagnose your hot water heater issues, and they can safely flush it and replace the anode rod for you.

Most water heaters have a lifespan of 10-15 years. If your water heater is 10 years or older and you are having problems with it, the most cost-effective option is probably to replace it rather than sinking more funds into a water heater that will need to be replaced in a few years anyway. Also, a new water heater will be more energy efficient, resulting in lower utility bills for you. We provide tankless, electric, and gas water heater installations.

We accept all major credit cards.

It depends on what you need. For most homes, a 50-gallon gas water heater or a 52-gallon electric water heater delivers enough hot water for your use and is small enough to not waste utilities. However, you may find that your family needs a larger one, and businesses usually require large water heaters as well.

For energy-efficiency, we particularly recommend hybrid water heaters. They last the longest and in the long run, they are more cost-effective. While the initial price tag of a hybrid water heater is more than a standard gas or electric water heater, the energy savings will pay off the initial cost difference in 5 years.
