In the long run, new water heaters can save you money by using less energy. In most homes, water heaters are the second-highest appliance when it comes to consuming energy. An older model of water heater may be taking up 25-30% of your energy bill, but a newer one doesn’t use as much. Still, we are always looking for ways to lower the price tag of a new water heater. We often have rebates and tax credits listed here for different kinds of hot water heaters: electric or gas, standard with a storage heater, tankless, and especially hybrid.

Hybrid (heat pump) water heaters come with a higher price tag than standard heaters, even after you receive rebates. The hybrid water heaters use 50% of the energy of standard water heaters because they absorb heat from the air and use it to heat the water in the storage tank. That’s why they are two or three times as efficient as a standard water heater. If you choose a hybrid instead of a standard water heater, you will compensate for the price difference in less than five years.
